A tape recorded voice is heard, "Hello,
My name is Shelly Ann Scott and I am a sales
representative for a software company. I
like my job because it takes me all over
the world. I am usually gone for weeks at
a time. Don't get me wrong I enjoy my work
and all the people I have to deal with are
quite pleasant. My boss is very nice to me
and has told me I have a secure future with
the company. This does not me to be reckless.
I am single and have a very exciting love
life! I go out almost every night dancing
with my friends. We have a great time going
to all the clubs. I love animals but can't
have any because I'm never home. One day
I want to own a monkey. I love to skate and
swim or just about any type of outdoor activities.
I have even bungie jumped before. As you
can see I am very happy with my life but
it wasn't always like that.
You see when I was about 15 something happen
to my family. Meaning. the only two people
in my life was taken away. I hate to bleed
on you, but I will feel better for talking
about it. You see, my dad, mom and me were
coming home from the drive-in movie. When
we got home we noticed that the front door
of our house was already open. My dad told
my mom and me to wait outside and he went
into the house. He look around downstairs
then he went upstairs. This is when we herd
my dad shout "Get out of my house!" and then we heard a gunshot. It sounded
like a fire-cracker. My mom then ran into
the house and up the stairs. I hesitated
and I started to shake but then I chased
my mom into the house. By the time I got
to the bottom of the stairs I herd another
gunshot. My mom came tumbling down the stairs
with blood all over her face. I started screaming.
When I looked closer I seen that she had
been shot in the head. I got down on my knees
and held her. Then, I heard someone coming
down the stairs. A man came up to me but
I couldn't see his face through my tears.
The man laughed and said "I killed your daddy too!" Then I heard him run out the door.
I don't know how long I sat there holding
my mom before a neighbor came and called
the police. The police latter told me that
it did not appear that anything was stolen.
I couldn't understand why anyone would do
this to my parents. They were such a happy
couple and best friends. They knew each other
since they were 5 and grew up together in
Arizona. They had pet names for one another
my dad called my mom, Lolly, short for lolly-pop
and my mom use to call my dad fuzzy even
though he was bald. They couldn't keep their
hands off of each other. I don't think they
could have lived without one another. What
type of person could go out of their way
to murder such a happy couple?
At the reading of the will we found out that
a silver watch was missing and we presumed
it was stolen by the murder. The watch had
no real value and was a family keepsake because
it was my great, great grandfather's, Wilhem
Scot, and had star engraved on it.
Well as you can see I went through some very
rough times and it took me a long time to
get over this tragedy. But I learned you
must pick up the pieces and move on. That
what my parents would have wanted me to do.
They raised me well. So you can probably
guess that my house is well secured. I really
don't care if a burglar gets in though I
just don't want him to leave. I went to great
lengths to make sure he could not escape
after he broke in. I had trap doors installed
that would drop him into a deep pit built
with high, smooth walls. I had it tested
to make sure no one could escape. When in
the pit there would be picture of my parents
and a tape recording that would play this
story every 15 minutes. Because like I said
before I am usually gone for weeks at a time
because of my job so the burglar might as
well relax 'cause he's not going anywhere.
The recorder stops and a captive burglar
looks at his silver watch, that has a star
engraved on it, and shakes his head in disgust.
